7 Tips for a Holiday-Party Glow

+ Pamela Friedman

If there’s one beauty trend that’s still going strong, it’s the search for that perfect, lit-from-within glow.

The holidays, perhaps more than any other time, brings on a desire to achieve this look. There are all the lights, colorful fashions, sequins, and candles—no way do we want to show up sporting dull, winter skin!

Achieving this look smack in the middle of winter, though, can be super challenging. Never fear—we have 7 tips below to help you look your holiday best this season.

1. Cleanse Gently.

To get the glow you want, you must start with clean skin, but typical cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils, resulting in dullness and dryness. How you start your skincare routine is critical if you want a healthy glow, so do not skip this important step. Find a creamy cleanser that cleans but leaves skin feeling smooth and relaxed. If your skin feels tight after cleansing, that means it’s drying—change your cleanser!

2. Spray on Moisture

Moisture is the key to glowing skin, but no matter how good your moisturizer is, cold air can sap it out of your skin, leaving you dry halfway through the day. Take a break to mist your face with a quality moisturizing spray and you’ll look like the winter weather doesn’t affect you.

Our Rescue + Relief Spray gives instant, cooling moisture while helping to counteract any dryness or irritation. It’s perfect for all skin types—even sensitive skin—and comes in a convenient travel size you can tuck into your purse.

3. Use Facial Oils

Facial oils help balance the moisture in your skin, and it doesn’t matter whether you’re dry or oily. Quality oils work either way and help replenish the fatty acids in the deeper layers, improving the skin’s ability to retain moisture over time.

After cleansing, simply place a few drops of your favorite oil onto your fingers and spread evenly over your skin. Good options include jojoba, olive, almond, grapeseed, sunflower seed, and manuka honey oils.

4. Choose a Radiant Moisturizer

No matter what else you do, you must have a quality moisturizer if you want a lasting holiday glow. We recommend our CV Skinlabs moisturizers here because one of the benefits they provide is that radiant sheen. Once you apply these moisturizers to your skin, you won’t be able to help but notice—the skin just looks more radiant afterward.

It’s all because of our ingredients. Natural fatty acids, oils, and extracts work together to replenish the moisture skin loses over the course of a day while taming inflammation and soothing irritation. Regular use of these products helps protect the skin’s outer barrier, creating a more resistant shield that keeps damaging microbes out and moisture in.

Choose our Calming Moisture for the face, and our Body Repair Lotion for the rest of the body.

5. Gently Exfoliate

Your skin can’t radiate through dead skin cells, but unfortunately, that’s what’s on the surface of your skin unless you’re regularly sloughing them off.

Avoid harsh scrubs that can irritate sensitive skin, and choose gentle fruit acid exfoliators that contain salicylic, glycolic, and lactic acids. These will help break through that hard crust of dead skin cells, allowing newer, younger cells to come forth. Use 1-3 times a week, depending on what your skin needs.

6. Treat Struggling Areas

Lips and cuticles get dryer and more problematic during this time of year, and a glowing complexion does nothing for you if your lips are chapped! Use a sugar scrub to exfoliate any dead skin on both the lips and the hands, then apply a moisturizing ointment that will provide the extra moisture and protection these areas need.

Rather than buy two products, try our Restorative Skin Balm for both. It works equally well as a cuticle moisturizer and lip balm and is small enough to take with you anywhere. A powerful trio of plant-based ingredients from calendula, sea buckthorn oil, and arnica provide antioxidant protection while helping to heal and regenerate the skin. Carnauba and bee’s wax safeguard the moisture barrier, while natural oils drench the skin in moisture.

7. Protect!

Once you have your glow, protect it with both sunscreen and clothing. Use scarves to cover your skin when going out in harsh weather, and apply sunscreen daily to keep dangerous UV rays from damaging skin cells. Remember that even when it’s cloudy out, UVA rays can penetrate the skin, and these are the rays most responsible for skin cancer.

How do you keep that healthy skin glow through the holidays?
