7 Reasons Your Skin Will Love a Facial Spray

+ Pamela Friedman

You’ve heard of facial sprays. Perhaps you even have one you’re using in your skin care routine right now.

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about using one? After all, before you started, you probably wondered if you really needed a facial spray.

Most people who start using them don’t wonder anymore, though, because there’s so much to like about them! But if you’re one of those who isn’t sure yet, we’ve got seven reasons why you should start using a facial spray today.

What are Facial Sprays?

Facial sprays are just what they sound like—skin care solutions meant to be sprayed, misted, or spritzed on the face. Though not necessarily new in other cultures, they’ve become super popular over the past few years in the United States, and that trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Most facial sprays are hydrating, at the very least, but many contain a mix of ingredients that provide additional benefits. You may find antioxidants, for example, natural extracts, soothing aloe, essential oils, and more.

Our Rescue + Relief Spray, for example, has aloe and cucumber, which help cool and calm the skin; water lily, which helps purify and remove excess heat, taming redness; and valerian and comfrey, which have anti-inflammatory benefits.

In fact, it’s important to look at the ingredients in a spray before buying it, as if the spray lacks humectants—ingredients that help the skin hold onto moisture—it could actually dry out the skin rather than moisturizing it. Water evaporates quickly, leaving dry skin behind it, so you want to find sprays that include moisturizing ingredients that will truly boost hydration.

But it’s not just the ingredients that make facial sprays popular—it’s the fact that the ingredients are delivered in a spray or fine mist. That means you can apply the product to the skin in a variety of situations where you couldn’t necessarily use a serum, lotion, or cream. It also means you can take the product with you to use when your skin needs that extra boost, which can help not only hydrate your skin, but increase your confidence, too.

7 Reasons to Love a Facial Spray

Keep in mind that there are several different types of facial sprays on the market. One that helps set your makeup, for example, is likely to have ingredients that seal foundation and other cosmetics on the face—this is not the type of spray we’re talking about.

Below, we give you seven reasons why you may want to try a hydrating and nourishing facial spray as part of your skin care routine—one similar to our Rescue + Relief Spray that has moisturizing and anti-aging ingredients in it. By the way, our super multi-tasker can be used for a number of things, from providing a welcome midday refresher to substituting as a toner to cooling off inflamed skin or scalp.

1. Facial sprays help hydrate.

You may start out feeling good after you put on your morning moisturizer, but then about midday, you notice that dry, tight feeling returns. Take a facial spray with you and spritz on your face when you start to feel that dry sensation. As long as you use a truly moisturizing spray, you can use it over makeup, and it will help hydrate your skin and keep it looking and feeling soft all day long.

This type of spray is especially helpful when you’re flying on a plane, or in another very dry situation. Even those without dry skin can suffer from tightness and dryness when traveling, so take your mister along for a quick hydrating boost.

2. A facial spray can serve as a toner replacement.

If you’re on the run in the morning, you may not want to take the time to apply a toner after you cleanse. A facial spray can work as your toner, balancing pH and preparing your skin for your moisturizer. (Our Rescue + Relief Spray works great as a toner.)

Plus the fast spritzing action is a handy time-saving feature that can help you get through your morning routine more quickly.

3. Facial sprays help makeup go on more smoothly.

Perhaps you already use moisturizer before you put on your makeup, but add a spray to it and you may find that your foundation goes on more smoothly. The spray creates a more hydrated canvas over which to apply color. Plus, that extra layer of hydration can help prevent the makeup from drying out too soon and settling into fine lines and wrinkles.

Many of the makeup artists who use our CV Skinlabs products have also told us that our Rescue + Relief Spray works great after applying makeup to impart that radiant sheen and encourage a longer-lasting luminous look.

4. A facial spray gives you an instant pick-me-up.

Just get out of work? Spritz on a facial spray. Don’t have time to shower after a workout? Rinse your face, mist some spray on it and go. Headed into an important meeting? Use your facial spray to increase dewiness and boost your confidence.

Anytime you need it, a facial spray can give you an instant pick-me-up. This is one of the main reasons why these products are so addictive—once you try them, you won’t want to be without them!

5. Facial sprays help seal in moisture.

If you want your skin to look dewy and plump all day long, consider using your facial spray as a “seal-in” product. Mist before applying moisturizer, again before applying your makeup primer, and again before foundation. This helps seal in moisture after each step, giving you a longer-lasting, hydrated look as you go about your day.

6. Facial sprays can help absorb excess oil.

If you have oily skin and you have to blot several times during the day, look for facial mists that are made to absorb excess oil. There are several out there, and they can be used for touch-ups throughout the day so you don’t actually have to touch your skin or disturb your makeup. Just spritz and go, and watch the oil disappear. Tea-tree oil sprays can even help tighten pores and kill bacteria trying to cause an acne breakout. Other ingredients to look for that can help tighten pores and reduce oil include lime, strawberry, and green tea.

7. Facial sprays help dilute other products.

Maybe you have a foundation that is too thick, a vitamin C product that comes in powder form, or a favorite cream that’s too heavy at certain times of the year. Face mists make it easy to dilute these down into more manageable solutions. Use them to make your cream into a lotion, turn your vitamin C powder into a serum, or thin out that heavy foundation so it applies more easily.
