Empowering Self-Care for Women on International Women’s Day

+ Pamela Friedman

According to a 2019 survey by the app Shine, self-care for women is a popular topic. The results of the survey showed that 79 percent of women wanted to prioritize self-care, but as we all know, that’s easier said than done.

At CV Skinlabs, we support, celebrate, and honor women every day with our nurturing products. This week, to celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8, 2021), we want to take the opportunity to honor the amazing women who work with us to help us fulfill our mission to our customers. We’re sending out a huge “thank you” to every one of you for your dedication!

We also want to offer you, our customers and readers, some self-care ideas for celebrating yourself and/or the women in your life on this special day. They all work hard and deserve a little extra attention at least one day out of the year.

How International Women’s Day Promotes Self-Care

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action to raise awareness about women’s equality and fundraise for female-focused charities.

This special day has been around longer than you may think. The first gathering was held in 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. More than one million women and men attended rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, hold public office, and end discrimination.

Over the decades, the day faded from public view until 2001, when the internationalwomensday.com platform launched with the goal of re-energizing the day. Today, this platform continues to promote the celebration of women and their achievements, while providing free guidance and resources, a women-owned business supplier directory, and a fundraising channel for female-focused charities.

Rose Self-Care5 Self-Care for Women Ideas Perfect for International Women’s Day

Since International Women’s Day is all about empowering women, we have seven self-care ideas below that will help do just that—empower you, boost your confidence, and help you own your self-worth.

Self-Care for Women Tip #1: Say No More Often

There may be no more empowering action than saying “no” when you need to. We all want to help others and be accommodating, but unfortunately, we often do so at the expense of our own self-care. It’s easy to focus on doing things, particularly when you’re doing them for someone else. It can be more difficult to focus on restoring yourself, but it’s something you must be able to do when you need to.

Think of it this way: When you say “no” to others, you’re saying “yes” to yourself. Say “yes” to giving yourself extra time to exercise, putting your priorities first, and allowing yourself the rest you require.

When we look after ourselves as we should, we become much better people all the way around, and certainly much better suited to help others when we’re ready.

Self-Care for Women Tip #2: Recharge Yourself as Often as You Do Your Phone

When we think of recharging, we often imagine doing so once a month or at most, once a week. Unfortunately, this is terribly inadequate.

Think of how often you recharge your phone. At least once a day, right? Yet you may wait until you’re feeling broken down to do the same for yourself.

Promote your energy and vitality by committing to a once-a-day recharging period. If you neglect this time, your internal battery—much like that cell-phone battery—is likely to lose power. As for how to recharge, that’s up to you, but in general, your recharging period should include rest, relaxation, and a good night’s sleep.

Self-Care for Women Tip #3: Exercise in a Way That You Enjoy

Exercise restores and empowers us perhaps more than any other activity. Regular exercise has multiple benefits for your physical and mental health and also compels your body to produce the energy you need to maintain your daily activities.

Slogging through yet another boring workout at the gym is a poor way to take care of yourself, however. It’s much better to choose a form of exercise you enjoy. That may be a walk or jog in the park (with your four-legged friend if you have one), a game of tennis with a pal, a refreshing bike ride, or a fun virtual exercise routine.

No matter what kind of exercise you do, it promotes feel-good neurotransmitters in your brain. Empower yourself by taking the time you need to exercise every day, no matter what.

If you’re too focused on what you must do for everyone else, you may slap on any old product on your skin. Stop! Store-bought skin care products are often full of potentially irritating and even dangerous ingredients. They can damage your skin over time.

Taking care of your skin is empowering. It helps you feel confident about your appearance and can contribute to your overall health. Particularly if you use safe, natural skincare products, you’ll be “feeding” your skin nourishing solutions.

Just as you should eat a healthy diet to take good care of yourself, so too should you use nourishing skincare products like those we make at CV Skinlabs. Our products include

  • anti-inflammatories like turmeric and aloe vera
  • antioxidants like Reishi mushroom and vitamin E
  • healthy fats like olive and soybean oils.

Your skin will “eat up” these ingredients and as a result, look and feel radiant and full of life.

Self-Care for Women Tip #5: Indulge Your Inner Creativity

We are all creative in some way. You may enjoy writing, drawing, designing, crafting, building, painting, composing, teaching, or other forms of creating. Whatever you love to do in your spare time that’s creative, do more of it.

Whenever you exercise your creative muscles, you activate different areas of the brain that help you think in new ways. It’s often when doing something creative that you’ll get a new idea for how to solve that problem at work, help your family overcome a challenge, or open a new door in your personal growth.

Invite your creative side to come out and play more often. You’ll feel happier and more balanced in life, and may discover ways to reach more of your potential.
