Mission Statement

CV Skinlabs has successfully developed a skin care line with an unprecedented standard for safety. Setting the bar at new heights for the safety of the ingredients, the functioning of the packaging, and the thoroughness of the testing has produced products that may be used with full confidence by the general public, and specifically by those with chemical sensitivities, compromised skin, and conditions like eczema and chronic dryness.

Critical Selection of Natural and Organic Ingredients

To meet this new standard of safety, CV Skinlabs employs the expertise of a highly skilled research team consisting of a toxicologist, a chemist specializing in natural formulations, and doctors. This team screens every prospective ingredient for any known links to cancer, hormone disruption, or other health risks, as well as for any known potential to cause skin irritation, burning, itching, or allergic reaction.

Product Safety and Preservation

Published research and global cosmetic regulatory organizations show that preservatives, especially in cosmetic products that contain water, are vital. In fact, they are required by global cosmetic regulations to ensure these products remain free of bacteria and other microoganisms for an extended period of time both on the shelf and during use. This is critical for consumers, particularly those who have sensitive, compromised, fragile, and broken skin susceptible to infections.

Safety is the number-one priority for CV Skinlabs; therefore, preservatives are included to prevent contamination during use. Without preservatives, cosmetic products would be unsafe, and would create an unacceptable health threat.

Much controversy surrounds the type of preservative used: synthetic vs. natural. After extensive research with our toxicologist and natural formulations chemist, CV Skinlabs chose to forego unproven and questionable natural preservatives in favor of a stable and reputable synthetic preservative system containing benzyl alcohol and dehydroacetic acid, approved by all of the major organic and natural standards worldwide. This system is free of parabens, formaldehyde, and 1,4-dioxane, and ensures our customers can enjoy a safe product without fear of infection or contamination.

Navigating the Question on Endocrine-Disrupting Hormones (EDH)

Some ingredients in personal care products can act like estrogen in the body, potentially altering hormonal function and causing health problems. CV Skinlabs produces only safe products, and therefore had to be cautious about ingredients that may be linked to hormone-altering activity.

• Man-made chemicals that have shown hormone-disrupting properties in scientific studies include bisphenol-A (found in some plastics), phthalates (found in some synthetic fragrances), and parabens.. CV Skinlabs employs none of these potentially harmful ingredients.

• Plant-derived ingredients that help human bodies battle the harmful effects of daily living may also have a slight estrogenic ability. These include whole grains, edible seeds, beans, leafy greens and seaweed, and many more-all ingredients we recognize as contributing to optimal health.

CV Skinlabs includes soybean oil in some products. Though soy is considered a phytoestrogen, it’s also referred to as a “smart” moisturizer because of its innate ability to hydrate dry areas while decreasing oiliness in other areas. Recent research has also shown that soy isoflavones create antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects on skin. Upcoming research results on the topical benefits of soy are expected to reveal even more benefits. Thus, CV Skinlabs has chosen to employ this useful phytoestrogen for its natural and protective effects.

Thoughtful, Functional and Trustworthy Packaging

Once the formulations are complete, only the most secure packaging can be trusted to ensure the integrity and reliability of the final products.

• Keep the product safe from contamination: Products that come in jars require the user to dip his or her fingers into the formulation, increasing the risk of contamination and infection and exposing tender ingredients to the oxidative effects of the air. CV Skinlabs uses no jars, but only one-way evacuation pumps and tubes to reduce the risk of contamination, and to protect the ingredients from the effects of the air around us.

• Customized and ergonomic bottles with an easy-to-hold shape: People with arthritis, neuropathy, or other movement challenges caused by medications may find it difficult to open jars or other types of containers. CV Skinlabs created customized bottles, tubes, and pumps easy to use by anyone.

• Recyclable, safe & BPA-free packaging: CV Skinlabs products are packaged in PET bottles ( #1) & PE tubes (#2) which are picked up through most curbside recycling programs as well as not known to leach any chemicals linked to cancer or hormone disruption.

• No glass bottles: They can crack, break, and shatter, creating a safety hazard.

• Reduce our ecological footprint: In an attempt to contribute to earth-saving manufacturing processes, CV Skinlabs included our product brochure on the inside of the packaging where appropriate, and avoided the use of glue wherever possible.

Rigorous Testing in Multiple Stages

Each CV Skinlabs product is subjected to a rigorous testing program.

• Extensive micro-challenge, stability and safety testing ensures the formulas will remain free of bacteria, protecting consumers from infection and guaranteeing a safe product.

• Clinically tested in a blind independent study for safety and efficacy.

• Consumer testing with men and women suffering from compromised skin (i.e., those with eczema, diabetic dry skin, post-surgical scarring, rosacea, chronic dryness, and skin exposed to chemotherapy and radiation) provides a final opinion on overall satisfaction and effectiveness.

• Board certified dermatologist-tested.

• Toxicologist-screened for carcinogens, xenoestrogens, and other potentially harmful ingredients.

• Tested on humans, not animals.

Setting a higher standard requires not just lofty goals, but a willingness to invest the time, effort, and expertise necessary to create a product truly worthy of being called “safe.”
